National Gallery of Art Engagement Session in Washington, DC

Crisjana + Caleb

For couples looking for a unique setting for their engagement session, there are a vast number of unique venues and locations such as the National Gallery of Art, that will make your friends stare in awe and make them even a bit jealous. There are so many opportunities and different perspectives to take photographs that will let you leave your mark on your session as well as even inspire future couples. When choosing a location for your engagement, I always recommend some place that feels or represents who you are as couple or a place that has some significance to you. Caleb and Crisjana picked the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC because it mirrors their plans for wedding day which will be happening at the Baltimore Museum of Art.

Planning a unique engagement session like this has its obstacles but here are some helpful tips to help plan a session like this (or any other engagement session) for yourself.

  • Research the museum and know what their photography restrictions are or if a permit is required for photography.
  • Map out your route of the gallery. Pick a few exhibits where you want photos, inform your photographer and let them direct.
  • Consider the time of day for your session so you’re not impeding patrons of the museum or dealing with big crowds during peak hours.
  • If possible, book an extra half or full hour so you don't have to rush through your session. Checking in and passing through security can be a lengthy process.
  • Be patient and polite. Remember, its a public gallery that exists to draw people, not your private space. Put on a show and work some magic for your audience if you can!
