Surprise Wedding Proposal at Lone Oak Farm Brewery

Taylor + Brynn

Taylor and Brynn’s surprise proposal was a really cute moment to photography. I admitted to them that I cry just a little bit as my cold nose was pressed to the back of my camera. As a couple who are no strangers to day trips, city adventures and vacations in other countries, an afternoon at Lone Oak Farm Brewery was a normal day to them, at least that was what Taylor thought. Brynn had rented a heated tent to stay warm in the cool fall atmosphere and right as they came out to go get a few beers, Brynn proposed. Taylor, full of smiles of course said yes and I came out of hiding to congratulate them both. It was a surprise proposal where I smiled the entire time and loved being a part of it.

Surprise proposals are such a beautiful thing. In the moment it happens, it’s a realization of your partner’s commitment to you and your love. Also, in that moment, is the realization of the present and the future; in that instant, your life is about to change. Hundreds of thoughts begin racing your head immediately. Thousands of half sentences form in your mind, none of which can form into actual words followed by the overflowing of emotions that are felt all at once. But its also calming and full of bliss with the power of one word, you can start a journey of love, wonder and happiness together. And that word is “yes”. Just remember to not keep them waiting too long while you process everything.

On the other side, its weeks of planning. When you are planning on proposing, you have to figure out what ring you (and they) want. Then you must figure out how you plan on proposing. Are you lighting up a Major League Baseball stadium scoreboard with a giant proposal? Or maybe you’re electing for something more intimate with friends, family or even just the two of you. Next, you must keep this giant plan a secret and act totally normal to not tip off your partner too soon. The moment you finally ask can feel so surreal but hearing them say “yes” in the end, makes it all worth it.

Now comes a bonus moment that is just as sweet; your partner’s seeing that you hired a surprise proposal photographer to capture the entire proposal! Not only will you both have an incredible story to tell, you’ll also have the photographs to share with it. It’s the first step on your wedding journey and a memory you are going to want to have.

As you plan your surprise marriage proposal, here are a few things you must do to make this moment last a lifetime.

  1. Consider picking a sentimental location. Although we have seen a rom-com or two with a giant public proposal, make sure its something your partner would be comfortable with. Picking a location like your first date spot or a scenic view on vacation are always safe and sure-fire comfort spots. But if you’re big Los Angeles Dodgers fans, a stadium proposal might make sense for you.

  2. Plan something around the proposal to disguise the moment and pack a bigger surprise. Catching your partner with their guard down always makes the proposal unforgettable.  Adding a layer of mystery can also provide some misdirection in case they get suspicious.

  3. Enlist the help of some friends. Keeping a secret and planning something this big can be tough, especially if your partner is astute or very curious. If you think they will be suspicious to you planning a fancy night out, have their friends plan it and you can take their place when it comes proposal time. The good old bait and switch!

  4. Plan ahead but keep it simple! Having too many things planned leaves you with too many things that can go wrong. Keep the planning relatively simple and easy to remember. You both should be able to enjoy the moment but you have to remember to get there first.

  5. Book a proposal photographer! This should be a no-brainer of course! You went through all of the planning to make your proposal unforgettable. Don’t forget to book a photographer so you can share those memories and have them forever. I got you covered on this, though! You can book a surprise proposal photographer by filling out the inquiry form here!
